Museum Spakenburg is a modern museum about the past of the town of Bunschoten. The museum is housed in eight different buildings and is both an indoor and an outdoor museum. It is situated on both sides of the Watersteeg, one of the historical alleyways in Spakenburg. There is a museum cafe. The museum complex comprises various homes, a small shop, a farm with a haystack, and a smokehouse. All in all, its grounds are 1,500 square meters. There are ten exhibitions in addition to several permanent exhibitions and a few temporary ones. In short, Museum Spakenburg is not a collection of old items, but a location where living history can be experienced.

Savvy explorers will be sure to visit the Golden Beach, a somewhat secluded area popular among hikers and swimmers, as well as wildlife enthusiasts. Some of the best coral reefs in the Red Sea can be found in this area, so divers and snorkelers can also be found here admiring the depths.

Continue through the history of Luleå by visiting the place we now call Gammelstad Church Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once the centre of Luleå, before the city was moved in the 17th century. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and there are also many rare birds in the area. Here, you can hike on what was once the seabed, now a beautiful forest with pleasant walking paths. When you have made your way to the modern city of Luleå, on the peninsula by the coast, you’ll find many other amazing areas to explore on foot. When people moved here in the 1600s, they also began exploring the surroundings. This helped create several excellent hiking trails near the city centre, such as one of the locals’ favourites, the trail around Hertsöträsk.
