The San Diego International Airport (SAN) is the closest major airport to Carlsbad, offering a variety of traveler services such as free WiFi, ATMs, restaurants, and shops. Terminal 1 accommodates airlines like Frontier, Spirit, Southwest, and Sun Country, while Terminal 2 serves international carriers including Lufthansa, Air Canada, and Japan Airlines. Taxis are the fastest and most convenient way to travel between Carlsbad and the airport; however, public transportation options such as the Amtrak Intercity and COASTER commuter trains also connect travelers from Los Angeles and Orange Counties to downtown San Diego. Additionally, McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD), located just 3 miles southeast of Carlsbad, is a smaller facility that offers select flights, but San Diego International Airport remains the primary hub served by most major airlines.
