Located 9 km south of Groningen, Groningen Airport Eelde is a small airport that serves a handful of international flights to various points of Europe, such as Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Greece, The UK and more. On-site establishments include a restaurant, shop and travel agencies. The nearest major airport is Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport, 200 km from the city.

The warmest months in Groningen are June through September, although these are also the months that bring the most precipitation. August is best month if you also plan to hit the beaches. As a cultural hub, Groningen hosts festivals throughout the year: the major crowd-pullers are Eurosonic Noorderslag in January and Noorderzon in August.

In Groningen, you can quickly get anywhere on foot or by bike, but there is also a bus network operated by Qbuzz. To pay for tickets, get an OV chip card or pay the driver cash-free. You can also pay through the 9292 app or website.

Whether you're at the airport or in the city centre, it's fairly simple to get a ride to another district or city. Services also abound for trips to Amsterdam, especially to Schiphol airport. Taxibedrijf Groningen, like some other taxi companies, operates with fixed prices and accepts card payments.

Pharmacies are called 'apotheek' in Dutch and are easy to find in most neighbourhoods of Groningen. They are generally open from around 8am to 6pm. Oosterpoort pharmacy is a 10-minute walk from the city centre and is one of the many branches of Service Apotheek.
