Known for its superb service, Ristorante The Kings offers a menu with pasta, meat, fish and Sardinian dishes. There is a beautiful view over the sunset from the restaurant's terrace.

This restaurant is something of a hidden gem, for though it is located a distance away from the historic district, it is known for serving the best pizza in the town of Alghero. Prices are very affordable and it is thus often crowded, which attests to the quality of the pizza.

Ristorante Gioberti is a very popular place among locals for its quality food, good service and varied menu. Seafood is the main attraction, but there are plenty of options if you like something different. It is recommended to book in advance if you want to avoid the queue that often builds up.

The wonderfully friendly staff at Enhorabona are always happy to explain every detail of the menu options, which are primarily seafood-based, with a healthy dose of traditional Sardinian cuisine. Portion sizes are quite generous, and the meals consistently get great reviews for flavour, presentation and freshness.

La Piadina del Pozzo is probably the best place in Alghero to grab a quick bite on the go. The menu consists of delicious piadinas and paninis with varied options of meat, cheese, vegetables and sauce. It is recommended to try unusual sounding combinations for a surprising and always pleasing experience.

Trattoria Lo Romanì gets a lot of things right. The setting is stunning, with pastel coloured walls and gentle lighting setting the mood, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food is great. But what it does best is the porchetto, a traditional Sardinian spit-roasted pork dish, which is better here than anywhere else.

Wander just a bit outside the old town to this lovely restaurant where owner Gianni and his staff will make you feel like part of the family. Be sure to book in advance as it often gets packed, which is understandable given the excellent quality of the food and reasonable prices. Try the tuna risotto, steak and aubergine, or pasta filled with mint and Sardinian cheese.
