Marseille’s main shopping areas are in the central and southern parts of town and cater to all tastes, from Côte d’Azur luxury and large department stores to quirky little boutiques and stores.

If you want smaller shops then head to the Cours Julien area, which has built up a reputation as an alternative, bohemian quarter. The area is also great for food and antique markets at weekends. Le Panier, Marseille’s oldest neighbourhood, is the best place for local products. Rue des Petits Puits and places des Pistoles are good streets for Provençal pottery and shops selling lavender soap and olive-based goodies.

In May 2014 a new shopping experience opened its doors. Les Terrasses du Port, a waterfront shopping mall, is ideally located north of the port and is a unique building complex full of shops, restaurants and a fitness park. Shop for everything under the sun, under one roof.

The Centre Bourse is a massive shopping centre, with about sixty stores and department stores, a stone’s throw away from the Old Port. It is a great place for getting all your shopping done in one place — from fashionable clothing, to cosmetics, to anything else you may possibly fancy.

La Canebière

South of the Centre Bourse mall is La Canebière, which is to Marseille what the Champs Elysées is to Paris. Combined with rue Ferréol, rue de Rome and rue de Paradis, this street makes up the biggest shopping area of the city and includes local and international designer stores.

Rue de la Tour

Rue de la Tour is your best bet for serious designer luxury, including chic evening wear. If you are looking for something nice to wear for the evening you can head here — there is certainly no shortage of classy, elegant and sophisticated designs.

Galeries Lafayette is one of the most spectacular and well-known department stores in France — there are multiple spread across the nation. You will find the most prestigious designer and cosmetics labels here. This is also home to huge toy, jewellery, home ware and delicatessen departments.

Monoprix

Monoprix

Monoprix is one of the most famous store chains in France. Here you can find everything from food to cosmetics, to interior design items and affordable clothing. If designer boutiques prove too pricey, Monoprix is solid alternative to find nearly anything you're looking for.

Centre Bonneveine

In the southern part of Marseille, in the eighth district to be exact, you can find the bustling Centre Bonneveine. The Centre Bonneveine offers more than 60 shops, a cinema, several restaurants and a supermarket. It is the best one-stop shopping location in the southern part of town.

In the northern part of Marseille the go-to shopping centre is the Grand Littoral Retail Park. This shopping complex is one of the biggest in Europe. You can find it all here - fashion, food, eateries, bars, and much more. Come with time to really explore all this humongous centre has to offer.

The well-known Printemps offers a wide range of fashion items and accessories. It is located in the Centre commercial la Valentine, in the suburbs of Marseille. The mall itself is home to a plethora of shops, including independent boutiques.

Cours Julien Market

Cours Julien Market

Cours Julien is located near the busy street of Cours Lieutaud. This little alley hosts various markets, one of the most popular ones being the local farmer’s market on Wednesdays. Come for fresh, organic local produce and portable edibles to bring home.

Prado Market

Next to the court house is the Avenue du Prado Market, which offers almost everything under the sun: food, clothes, knick-knacks, fruits and vegetables. Do not forget to bring your wallet and a big shopping bag — few have successfully ventured out empty-handed.
