Dominica enjoys a tropical climate with steady temperatures all year round, although it is considered one of the wetter islands of the Caribbean. The rainy season runs from around July to November, consequently the tourist high season more or less corresponds to the dry season and lasts from January to June. Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM) is the main airport of Dominica, just north of the city of Marigot and approximately 46 km from the capital, Roseau. It is a relatively small airport serving a small number of international flights, but it does offer some amenities such as car rental services and restaurants.

With its central location, Roseau Cruise Ship Berth offers easy access to some tourist landmarks such as the Dominica Museum and an array of shops and restaurants. Exploring the local culture is effortless thanks to the iconic Old market and further market stalls inviting travellers to browse for souvenirs. Those eager to explore beyond can easily hail taxis and tour operators, who offer a variety of adventures to uncover the treasures of Nature Isle.

Taxis are easy to find at the airport or in the city centre of Roseau. You can recognize them by the letters H, HA or HB on their license plates. Seek out authorised taxis and agree on the fare with the driver beforehand. Black Cab Dominica is an essentially well-known and trusted provider with a wide range of services. Much like taxis, rental car services are plentiful in Roseau's centre. To rent a car, you'll need to buy a driver's permit, which will set you back around 12 USD. Keep in mind that in Dominica, driving is on the left side of the road. Given the island's hilly landscape, it's wise to proceed with care on the winding — albeit well-maintained — roads.

For those keen on exploring the island by bus, a host of private minibus services offer regulated, budget-friendly fares. While the service runs fairly regularly, be aware that you might have to flag down the bus yourself. Roseau serves as the central hub for most bus routes, but even smaller villages are well-connected through this transport option.
