Nashville has quite a few hotel coffee shops, and Moonshot is one of the most popular among them. Highly praised by coffee experts, Moonshot offers classic espresso drinks and creative alternatives such as the Roxy — coffee with orange tonic. The cafe makes great looking pastries and sandwich, too. The prices are fair, there's power outlets all over the place if you want to work there, and the street parking is easy. The interior design itself is a treat, with glass walls, liberal use of trendy pastels (Millennial Pink for the win!), concrete and textured tiles.

Ugly Mugs is a local coffeehouse with an artsy, industrial feel that serves breakfast and lunch, sometimes accompanied with live music. Really unattractive coffee mugs straight off the clearance rack at Goodwill are this cafe's specialty. It's not the appearance what counts — the caffeinated beverages inside are consistently divine. Chill with one of the ceramic monstrosities on a cosy couch, at the window bar or enjoy the cafe's great outdoor space. And don't forget to treat yourself: their neighbors make some fantastic donuts!

Crema, Coffee Roasters is an artisanal cafe in the SoBro area serving drinks, pastries and small bites in an industrial space with wood paneling. Their patio, though not huge, was a cool spot to hang out and it had a pretty good view of the city. The founders are passionate about third wave coffee culture and even teach coffee classes. Try the coffee soda!
