Burgas Airport is just a 20-minute walk from Sarafovo’s sandy beach, and around 10 kilometres from the Burgas city centre. While most regular flights connect to Sofia and London, budget airlines offer seasonal routes to cater to the Black Sea’s sunny appeal.
Bus #15 runs to Burgas Central Bus Station, where you can transfer to buses or minibuses heading to nearby resorts, both north and south of the city. Alternatively, you can rent a car or take a taxi. Eko Taxi is the official airport partner.

Passport & Visa
Citizens of European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries do not need a visa to enter Bulgaria, only a valid ID. Many other countries, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Australia, and New Zealand, benefit from visa-free entry for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Visitors from visa-exempt countries must hold a valid passport and, starting in late 2025, will need to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) authorisation online before travelling.
For those requiring a visa, such as travellers from some Middle-East, African or Asian nations, a Schengen visa must be obtained prior to arrival. All travellers should ensure their passport is valid for at least three months beyond their intended stay.

Best Time to Visit
For most vacationers, Burgas is a summer destination, with swimming, doing water sports and relaxing on the beach topping the list of activities. The summer season officially runs from mid-June to late August, but September is also a great time to visit — the sea remains warm, the kids are back at school, and air temperature is still in the 23–25°C range. You could try and beat the crowds by planning your trip for just before the high season. May and early June are already quite warm, but this time is less ideal for swimming, since the water is still comparatively chilly.

Public Transport
Burgas has a well-developed public bus network, with routes connecting the city to nearby resorts and coastal towns. Inner-city and suburban lines are operated by the municipal company Burgasbus Ltd. A range of travel packages and single tickets are available, which can be purchased directly on the bus. For details on fares and the electronic ticket system, visit the official Burgasbus website.
Public transport runs regularly from 5am to 11pm, with night services (line “N”) operating hourly. The fleet includes both diesel buses and trolleys.
In addition to the official buses, small minibuses operate on select routes. Payment is made in cash to the driver when you disembark.

Taxi
Metered taxis are a popular way to get around Burgas. For longer journeys, fares are typically fixed rather than metered. When hailing a taxi on the street, be cautious of unlicensed vehicles — always check for the mandatory Municipality Burgas sticker.
Neither TaxiMe nor Bolt taxi-hailing apps currently operate in Burgas.

Rental Bikes
Burgas’s long coastline, straight promenade, and new cycle paths, along with its wide central streets, make it ideal for cycling. One of the most enjoyable, healthy, and eco-friendly ways to explore the city is by bike. Burgas was the first city in Bulgaria to introduce a public bike-sharing system, now called Burgas Bikes (formerly Velo Burgas), with over 20 kilometres of dedicated bike lanes.
The system operates daily around the clock, offering 120 blue bicycles across nine stations. Three bike info centres provide access to tire pumps, details about the bike system, and information on local events. To rent a bike, simply download the Burgas Bikes app.
