What better way to discover the island than to put on your hiking shoes and get out there? You are sure to find remote places and breathtaking scenery. There are paths criss-crossing the whole island. Some of the best hiking trails are the Boracay Trail, Mount Ilijan and Calimbajan Peak. If you prefer renting a mountain bike, you can do so pretty much anywhere along White Beach.

Kunsthal (Art Hall) KAdE doesn’t have a collection of its own, but it puts on a new exhibition every few months on modern art, architecture, design and everything visual. The art hall is located in the Eem House and has a special atmosphere that lovers of architecture will certainly appreciate.

LxFactory is an art centre with a strong industrial feel in the Alcântara district of Lisbon. Located on the grounds of one of the most significant textile factories dating back to mid-19th century, this complex of hipster delights boasts galleries, shops, restaurants and performance spaces. Slightly off the beaten track, but an absolute must-visit if you want to experience the more alternative and young side of Lisbon.

Moco Museum packs big-name modern and contemporary art into the 1904 Villa Alsberg, a townhouse steps from the Rijksmuseum. Since 2016, its intimate (if somewhat cramped) rooms have showcased Banksy, Basquiat and Kusama alongside rising stars, all sourced from private collections. The permanent Banksy exhibition shares space with rotating shows, while the gift shop peddles cheeky art merch. Expect queues for Yayoi Kusama’s infinity rooms or Warhol’s pop pieces; early mornings or late afternoons ease the squeeze. More accessible than scholarly, it’s ideal for art newcomers or those short on time.
