Originally named "City Park" and later renamed after the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Balboa Park is the largest urban cultural park in the United States and the beating heart of San Diego's cultural scene. Spanning 1,200 scenic acres, the park overlooks downtown San Diego and houses an impressive collection of museums, theaters, stunning gardens, and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. This diverse range of attractions makes Balboa Park an essential stop during any visit to San Diego.

The Split City Museum houses a great collection that presents the cultural and historical heritage of Split, giving an expansive glimpse into the city's past. Including sculptures, paintings and diverse artworks, it is set in a 14th century palace. Guided tours can be arranged in advance.

Constructed around the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in the north-western part of the Old City, the area is home to several Christian sights. Few houses can be found here — it's mostly about religious buildings, educational facilities, and a plethora of cafés, restaurants, and shops. The streets are packed with vendors. It is especially worth exploring the area of Mauristan, teeming with shops and colourful stalls. Used as a market during the Roman Empire, the area hosted churches and hospices during the Crusades (in Persian, "Mauristan" means hospital).

Rich in archaeological finds and artefacts, the Croatian Maritime Museum is located inside the 17th century Gripe Fortress. Catch a glimpse of the artistic beauties long lost in sea. The exhibitions show that the maritime community had a major influence throughout the Adriatic Sea.
