Step back in time at the Old Bund (Laowaitan), where the architectural legacy of Ningbo's cosmopolitan past comes alive. English, French, German, and Dutch-style buildings evoke memories of the 1930s and 1940s in this once-bustling international hub. Today, the area offers a variety of evening venues, many of which operate primarily during the summer months.

Yuehu, which literally means Moon Lake, is in the south-west of Ningbo, was first turned into a cultural and academic centre during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Nowadays it is the main recreation area for many locals who come to play chess, practise the martial art of Tai Chi, dance or just enjoy the beautiful views.

In 1832, Russia began construction of the fortress of Bomarsund. Since Åland then constituted the westernmost part of Czarist Russia and had a location of strategic importance, Russia desired a strong military presence and an impressive fortress there. During the Crimean War, in 1854, an Anglo-French naval force attacked the fortress, which resulted in the Battle of Bomarsund. The fortress was demolished and today only ruins (and the Bomarsund Museum) serve testament to Russian presence and the grandiose plans once wielded for Åland. The town of Punta Gorda is famous for its relaxed atmosphere and for being a popular destination away from the crowds. What makes Punta Gorda an interesting place to visit, is the Garifuna People — the oldest settlement on the island. They speak their own language and still keep the own traditions and culture alive. The locals also have their own cuisine which combines seafood, coconut milk, plantains, bananas and other local ingredients. Sunday is considered to be the best day to visit the town as it is a festive day for the Garifuna People.
