This 174-acre wildlife park features Wake County's last operating 18th-century, water-powered gristmill. The mill is supported by a 16-foot-tall stone dam and a 24-acre pond. The park features a big visitor center with an exhibit hall, while the surrounding natural areas include over three miles of hiking trails.

In 1855, the Archduke Massimiliano of Hapsburgs built this palace and lived here with his wife Carlotta del Belgio, until 1864. Though beautiful, this castle holds a tormented story behind it: Massimiliano was killed in Mexico in 1867, and Charlotte died insane in a Belgian castle, sixty years later. The Duke of Aosta, who lived there some sixty years later, died in Africa during World War II.

Oudayas Kasbah near Rabat's nedina has kept its old cannons placed on a bastion. Its massive gate is entirely carved, while its blue and white walls give it a Mediterranean atmosphere. Cobbled streets lead to the El Atiqa Mosque, the oldest in the city, and on to the old semaphore platform. The view from here, or the terrace of the neighbouring Café Maure, is splendid: Rabat, nearby Salé and Bouregreg river meeting the ocean. The Oudayas Palace, further on up, which now houses the National Museum, has conserved its markedly simple and balanced original decor. The Andalusian Gardens below are a heaven of peace full of fruit trees, rose-laurels and cascades of bougainvilleas.

The busy market is one of Banjul's primary attractions, a vibrant kaleidoscope of multi-colored peppers, all manner of foodstuffs (from rather standard fruit and vegetables to salted fish and even dried sea snails), fabrics, jewellery, and beauty products such as wonder-working shea butter.
