Bali Bird Park is home to around 250 bird species—some native, others from as far as South America and Africa. There’s also a small reptile section, including a Komodo dragon. It’s a good stop if you're into wildlife or visiting with kids.

A stroll along Passeig de la Muralla offers Girona’s most dramatic perspectives, tracing the line of ancient fortifications that once enclosed the city. These walls, Europe’s longest surviving Carolingian remnants, combine Roman foundations with medieval expansions, now restored to create an elevated walkway. The path winds past historic watchtowers and through the lush Jardins dels Alemanys, offering quiet corners and photogenic vantage points. Though some sections involve steep steps and uneven stones, the reward is a peaceful, crowd-free journey through layers of history. For a memorable descent, exit at the Jardins de la Muralla, where the ramparts gently return you to the modern city. Access is free, with multiple entry points. Start near the cathedral for a climb up the Torre Gironella, where a spiral staircase leads to sunset views over the terracotta skyline and distant Pyrenees.

Just north of Girona lies the Lake of Banyoles, a crystal clear body of water about 2 kilometres long, favoured particularly by rowers. Stroll, swim or row your way around the picturesque lake, and stop for a rest, a snack and a coffee at the nearby establishments in the town of Banyoles.

Düsseldorf's Altstadt (Old Town) is also home to some of the city's most beautiful churches. For instance, the Sankt Lambertus Basilika, which was first built in the 13th century, and which with its twisting spire helps make Düsseldorf's skyline unique. In conjunction with the Schlossturm (Castle Tower) and the River Düssel, the basilica remains part of the Old Town's original core. This church's parish altar also houses a shrine containing relics of Saint Apollinaris, the city's patron saint.
