Tucked into the bohemian Grottes district, Les Schtroumpfs — or the Smurfs buildings — are some of the quirkiest architecture in Geneva. Built in the early ’80s by three architects with a clear nod to Gaudí and comic book weirdness, the buildings look like something out of a fairytale: rounded shapes, bright colours, and almost no straight lines. Locals named them after the Smurfs because they genuinely look like something those little blue guys would live in. The complex houses around 750 families and includes a kindergarten, a dental clinic, and a few cafés, all surrounded by trees and playgrounds. It’s not a tourist hotspot, but definitely worth a quick wander if you’re nearby.

Humans have inhabited the ridge over the confluence of the Sava and Danube for over two millennia. The core of today’s capital city is the Belgrade Fortress and the Kalemegdan Park. They form a unique spatial entity with clearly visible remains of the Fortress divided into Upper and Lower Town, with two distinct styles. Elements of mediaeval architecture combine with dominant baroque solutions, typical for the 18th century. The Kalemegdan Park, split in two as the Great and Little Parks, developed in the area that once was the town field. The fortress and the park together represent a cultural monument of exceptional importance, the area where various sport, cultural and arts events take place.

The island's main port and capital, Chora is the hot-spot for shopping, dining, and cultural pursuits. With its scenic cascade of white houses which dot the Venetian hilltop castle, windmills, museums, and a plethora of photo-ready locations, this is the epicentre of life on Astypalaia.

Also called "Fortress Cathedral", this is a Medieval church built in the 13th century over the ruins of San Nicola´s church. The austere facade granted it the title of biggest medieval monument in Taormina: with its Gothic-Norman style, it shouldn't be missed.
