There are numerous places to try ziplining close to Charlotte Amalie, but the most lively one is Tree Limin' Extreme Zipline. Soar at 55 km/h (35 miles per hour) between 8 platforms over the Caribbean lush rainforest. This is one of the few surviving parts of the ancient defence system that once surrounded the Old Town. Built in the early 14th century, it was the main defence of the north. Further towers were added in the 15th century, but the Florian's Gate is the only remaining gate from the original eight. In 1660, it was extended to include a Baroque roof, raising its height by one metre, and today it measures around 33.5 metres.

While in Cologne, you can visit Germany's oldest city hall, with parts dating back to the 11th century. Over time, it has picked up a mix of styles—Gothic tower, Renaissance loggia, some modern touches. The 61-metre tower is covered in carved figures, including some cheeky ones from local history, and the bells chime four times a day. There’s also a mechanical face called the Platzjabbek that sticks its tongue out on the hour. Inside, the Hansasaal is the main historic hall—worth a look if it’s open.
