The many winding steps of Charlotte Amalie were built in the mid 1700s. The bricks for the steps were brought all the way from Denmark as ballast in the empty hulls of the sailing ships. The picturesque 99 steps attract the most foot traffic and cameras. How could one resist this narrow stairway, adorned with flowers on both sides! The original name if the street can be translated as the Greater Tower Street. The steps lead to the Blackbeard’s Castle — a 17th century watch tower. The tower has been closed to visitors since Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but the view from up above is still stunning.

Contrary to popular belief, Varna is not just about beaches and sunbathing. If you love games and fun, the Amusement Park offers a variety of attractions and entertainment facilities. While primarily designed for children, adults can also enjoy the lively atmosphere, take a stroll, or grab a bite at one of the many eateries nearby.

A Bedouin desert camp complete with tents made from goat’s hair, a bustling souq, a mud hut village and a fishing harbour are all reconstructions that make fascinating displays in the Emirates Heritage Village. You can sometimes try their hand at traditional crafts like pottery or weaving, which are demonstrated in a series of small workshops within the village.

The Church of El Salvador is simply beautiful and full of wonderful small details that you can go and look at for ages. A tip to avoid the queue is to first visit this church and then the cathedral, both of which can be visited with the same ticket.
