The Natural History Museum is striking even before you step inside, with an architectural design inspired by geological forms that makes it one of Abu Dhabi’s most remarkable buildings. It’s an excellent choice for families, as children will be captivated by the exhibits. Inside, you’ll find meteorites, fossils, dinosaurs and other ancient species, all presented through educational guided tours. The museum leads you through different eras of natural history, emphasising the importance of protecting the planet, one of its core messages. Crowning Girona’s skyline, the Cathedral of Santa Maria commands attention from the top of a majestic 86-step staircase. Its soaring Baroque façade, added in the 17th century, belies a far older history: foundations date to the 5th century, with a Romanesque church and 12th-century cloister still preserved within. The cathedral’s most notable feature is the 23-metre-wide Gothic nave (widest in the world!) completed in the 14th century and illuminated by vast stained-glass windows. Inside, the Museum of the Cathedral safeguards extraordinary treasures, including the 11th-century Tapestry of Creation, a vivid Romanesque depiction of divine order, and a gem-studded 14th-century silver altarpiece. The large market square located at the heart of the city centre is surrounded by a multitude of must-see sights. The daily market takes place here, where you can buy all sorts of tasty treats, flowers and spices. The ornate Beautiful Fountain is a well-photographed sight. The two rings on the fence are the focus of much attention. A legend says that if you turn the “golden ring” and make a wish, it will come true. The black ring, meanwhile, is said to bless women with children. The main market square is characterised by the facade of the Chruch of Our Lady constructed as an imperial royal chapel. Every day at noon the "Männleinlaufen" (mechanical clock and glockenspiel) takes place here - a daily event not to be missed!
