Basilique Saint-Michel is a Gothic church dating back to the 14th century, and it stands out for its separate, 114-metre bell tower — the tallest in southern France. You can climb the tower for great views over Bordeaux. Inside, there are plenty of chapels with old artwork, and the whole place is part of the UNESCO-listed Routes of Santiago pilgrimage.

Chania, or "Venice of the East", is the second biggest city in Crete, built on the site of old Kydonia. One the most picturesque cities in Greece, Chania oozes with artistic influences of the various cultures which have passed through it. Historical buildings have been renovated and now house museums and cultural centres, for example, the former Venetian Monastery of Saint Francis now hosts the Archaeological Museum of Chania.

With more than 50 open-air sports facilities, including a golf course and cable-ski circuit, as well as courts and pitches for various sports and extreme activities like bungee-jumping and paintball, there's no shortage of action. The area's restaurants offer traditional city fare, particularly fish specialities, while bars and floating river clubs provide vibrant nightlife.
