The former royal palace of King Roger II in the 1100s, Palazzo dei Normanni is one of the most famous sights in Palermo. Dating back to the 9th century, the palace owes its current appearance to the embellishments realised by the Normans: covered in dazzling Byzantine mosaics, the Arab-Norman architecture is a symbol of the political and cultural union operated by the Normans. With its impressive display of Neo-Gothic artistry, the Cathedral of Zagreb was rebuilt by Viennese architects after an earthquake in 1880, and most of the money and creativity was spent on its two spires, which, interestingly enough, are not the same height. One is 104 meters tall while the other one is 105 meters.

One of the Hoi An Ancient Town's most emblematic structures, the Japanese Covered Bridge dates back to the early 17th century, when it was first constructed by the Japanese community as a link to the Chinese quarters of Hoi An. Much of the original ornamental wood carvings remain preserved, and so do the sculptures of two dogs and two monkeys on either end of the bridge. Although the exact reasons for this particular animal selection aren't clearly identifiable, some explanations include the sacred status of the two in Japanese culture and birth years of Japanese emperors predominantly falling on either dog or monkey. Inside the bridge, there is a tiny temple of the northern god Tran Vo Bac De, who is believed to hold powers of controlling the weather. The Japanese Covered Bridge is included on the list of attractions one can visit on an Ancient Town Entry Ticket.

The museum itself is a wonderful piece of art and has won several international architecture prizes. The most interesting part of the exhibition would be the folk culture hall, where a whole street featuring shops of traditional handcrafted art was created inside the building. This place will take you back in time and offer a closer look at the old Ningbo City.
