Curling is a popular winter sport in the Twin Cities. Visit the St Paul Curling Club and watch how the players slide the hubcap-sized ‘puck’ down the ice, aiming for the target. While the intricacies of the game may seem a bit foreign at first, it’ll be a unique experience to see the ‘pitcher’ shouting at the ice brushes.

This burial site complex is believed to be the largest prehistoric cemetery in the world, encompassing thousands of burial mounds spread throughout the island's northern area. Dating as far back as the Dilmun era, some of the tombs are incredibly well preserved, particularly those around the village of A'Ali.

Despite being composed of humble mud and camel hair, Al Shinanah Tower has survived centuries and numerous battles. Reportedly, the 27-metre-tall tower was constructed in 1699, but some historians estimate the building was erected anywhere between the 12th and 19th centuries. A low, narrow door at the base of the structure gives you access to the eight floors and three lookout windows. The tower is located on the edge of Ar Rass town, whose name means "old well". Said well made human settlement possible in the area, and marked the town as one of the most important trade and pilgrimage stops.

For an authentic local shopping experience, there is no better place than Souq Bab Al Bahrain, the old bazaar of Manama. Look for the best bargains and haggle with traders in this melting pot of alleys and narrow streets. Its numerous stalls and shops sell everything you may long for: from spices, jewellery and gold items to colourful textiles and handcraft rugs. Several souvenir shops and street-food kiosks can also be found in the market.
