As Port Zante is located right in Basseterre's city centre, getting there by ferry or taxi is relatively easy. There are also mini vans called "route taxis" If you are going to Port Zante in a route taxi, look for one that has "Basseterre" written on the front sign. Once you board the minibus, you can tell the driver that you want to go to Port Zante. The minibus will drop you off at the bus terminal in downtown Basseterre, and from there it's just a 10-minute walk to Port Zante. You can ask locals for directions or follow the signs to the cruise ship terminal. The Westport Aquarium has been in operation since 1955. It receives most of their fish from local charter fishermen. Therefore, when you visit The Westport Aquarium, you are glimpsing the local fishing industry.

The Maruyama Zoo covers a vast area and has an amazing variety of animals and birds, around 200 different species. It is a great place to take children, and visit (for example) the Tropical Animal House, the Bear House or the Kid's Zoo.
