The island offers a plethora of hiking trails, best explored outside of the hottest summer months when the sun is ablaze. Enthusiasts may thoroughly enjoy hiking up the “Ftera” terrain, with 20 different climbing routes to choose from.

The site of an infamous prison reborn as the superb Constitutional Court, art gallery and museum. The history of Constitution Hill dates back to 1892; a prison turned military defence post during the South African War. These buildings were known as "the Fort", and have through the years incarcerated the likes of Mahatma Gandhi. In 1964 the Fort was declared a National Monument, and in the late 90's it was chosen the new Constitutional Court.

Yu Garden embodies the quintessence of classical ancient Chinese gardens south of the Yangtze River – a creation of maximum out of minimum. While it takes a familiar person only five minutes to walk from the entrance to the exit, most first-time visitors find themselves lost in this little paradise with fish ponds, rockeries, plants, bridges, and buildings of various types arranged along zigzagging paths. The ingenious use of Chinese gardening art in combination with the garden’s 400-plus years of history makes Yu Garden one of the most popular tourist attractions in Shanghai.
