Though still largely traditional in many ways, Bhutan's fascinating capital is going through something of a transformation. It remains the only world capital without a single traffic light, yet Thimphu is in many ways rapidly modernising, with several 5-star hotels and increasing numbers of restaurants and nightlife venues.

Located in the lively Lombok district, Molen de Ster is a historic mill commissioned by the Van der Starren family. It stands as the sole remaining structure from a series of sawmills along the Leidsche Vaart. After an extensive restoration in the 1990s, the mill houses a café, and has a small animal park nearby. Guided tours in English provide insight into the mill's history.

What once used to be a cemetery is now the Janskerkhof Flower Market. Located in the square surrounding the historic Janskerk church small local market, the area offers a vibrant flower market and a gathering place with cafes, restaurants and shops. Every Saturday visitors come here to admire not only the wide variety of flowers, but also its picturesque historic buildings and cobblestone streets.

Your visit to Utrecht won't be complete without the iconic Dom Tower in your itinerary. Dating back to 1382, this monumental Gothic tower is visible from across the city, hence it stands as Utrecht's symbol and a must-visit attraction. Soaring to a height of 112 metres, it holds the distinction of being both the tallest structure in Utrecht and the tallest church tower in the Netherlands. The tower was originally connected to the Dom Church, however, after collapsing in 1674 due to a summer storm, both tower and church were rebuilt separately. Currently, there are various guided tour options available at the ticket shop.
