Dominating the city skyline, you can’t fail to notice it: the Imperial Castle. At the time of the Holy Roman Empire, the castle was occasionally home to each of the emperors, and in the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important royal palaces. The sights here include the new castle museum, the palace with the emperor’s living quarters, the Romanesque Double Chapel, the Deep Well and the Sinwell Tower. The neighbouring garden is a must-see too. It might be small, but it’s a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city and is popular with residents too. The castle's garden is open from April to October.

The name of this Greek orthodox church translates to "Our Lady of the Side Gate" since its entrance is located at the side gate of the entrance to the Kastro neighbourhood. The church is made up of five whitewashed chapels across two floors that once guarded the entrance to the town’s castle. Construction began in the 14th centry and was completed in the 17th century. Now it's considered one of the island's icons and a must-visit spot.

The effervescent Parrot Mountain and Gardens is located just outside Pigeon Forge and is a must for families, friends, locals, and visitors. The four acres harbor hundreds of tropical birds and thousands of trees, plants, and flowers. Guests are given the opportunity to interact directly with the beautifully plumed birds, petting and feeding them in the designated area. There is even a nursery where guests are welcome to hold the baby birds. Overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains is the deck, where lunch from the deli may be enjoyed while the birds serenade. A secret garden is lush with birds flying freely and pathways that display all of the gorgeous flowers.

The belfry of Lille's Hôtel de Ville shoots up a hundred metres into the sky, and is accessible via both stairs and an elevator (the latter means of reaching the top is recommended). From up top, a splendid view unfolds over the entire city, including a few local landmarks (although admittedly little of the old town).
