When in the Old Town Market Square, you'll meet a mermaid — the official symbol of the city. Don’t forget to see the Barbican, stop by the bell on Kanonia Street, and walk along the old city walls. You should also visit the Royal Castle. Apart from the royal apartments, the old seat of Polish rulers also houses an art collection with paintings by Rembrandt and Bernardo Bellotto, also known as Canaletto. The Emigrants Monument, an evocative representation of Karl-Oskar and Kristina from William Moberg's novel 'The Emigrants', graces the beach promenade in Karlshamn's Hamnparken. Serving as a poignant memorial, it honours the over 1 million Swedes who, between 1848 and 1930, left their homeland in pursuit of a better life, escaping the clutches of hunger and poverty. Many embarked on their journey to the United States from the very port of Karlshamn. Olson's masterpiece captures the essence of this historical exodus, portraying Karl Oskar and Kristina gazing out over the sea, symbolizing the hopeful embarkation of countless emigrants on their transformative adventure.

Constructed during a tumultuous period when colonial powers were vying for control of what was then known as British Honduras, St. John's Cathedral was built utilizing slave labor over a duration of eight years. Despite its unassuming exterior, this small Anglican church holds a unique distinction as the sole location outside of England where British monarchs were crowned. Four Indian Miskito tribe kings, who resided along the Mosquito coast, were bestowed with elaborate British ceremonial regalia that rivaled even the grandeur of London's royal ceremonies. This effort by the British was aimed at cultivating friendly relations with the tribe and safeguarding their power, land, and wealth from their Spanish rivals.

Karlshamn's beautiful archipelago extends from the western municipal border to Sweden’s southeastern corner. This group of islands is called Hällaryd’s archipelago and consists of 270 scenic islands of different sizes with stone or rocky beaches and meadows. Joggesö, Ekö, Hallö, Östra Bokö and Fölsö are the names of some of the islands. The largest in the archipelago is Tärnö. The archipelago boats visit most islands, starting at the archipelago terminal in the city centre across from First Hotel. Boats also depart from Matvik and Järnavik.
