Built on the land occupied earlier by the Corpus Christi hospital, one of the city's medieval hospitals. In 1558 the city exchanged plots with Archishop Esteban Almeyda and the hospital was relocated to the Parish of Santiago. The building may have started in the 16th Century, soon after the establishment of the Orihuela Bishopric. It underwent profound changes in the 18th Century under the reigns of Bishops José Flores Ososrio and Pedro Albornoa Tapia. In the mid-20th century, it lost its original functions, was restored at the beginning of the 21st Century and is currently home to the Diocese Museum of Sacred Art. At the back, facing the river, there is a gallery with semi-circular arches. Inside, another striking feature is the cloister with heraldic decoration, the main staircase of Alicante marble and the dome built on an octagonal base, with exterior cobalt blue glazed tiles.

The Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno stands as a historical testament, containing the remains of distinguished citizens such as De Andre' and Govi, as well as the tomb of Lady Constance Wilde, the wife of Irish playwright Oscar Wilde. Its elegant galleries and chapels display hundreds of statues, making it a captivating open-air museum. The styles used by sculptors go from realism, neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance to Art Nouveau and Symbolism.

The city of Porto is advantageously located right on the Atlantic coast, meaning there is no shortage of beaches within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. For sunbathing or swimming, visit the sandy Praia dos Ingleses or Matosinhos. Watch the sunset while enjoying fine food and a few drinks on the promenade of Gondarem Beach, a rocky shoreline close to the city centre.

Wollaton Hall and Deer Park is one of the country’s finest Grade One listed Elizabethan mansions located within 500 acres of lovely parkland and lake. The house is now Nottingham Natural History Museum and at the Wollaton's Courtyard Stables you will find the city's Industrial Museum. Notice, that the parkland has a herd of deer which to admire and large-scale outdoor events and festivals are held here.
