Highfields is a lovely park located close to Nottingham University Campus and is a well maintained park with magnificent trees, exotic plantings and water features. Boat hire, bowling, croquet, putting are some of the activities offered here. For the children there is a play area and a variety of events are organised here.

Located in Guzelyurt, the Morphou Archaeology and Nature Museum is a unique attraction that combines natural history and archaeology. Originally the palace of the Bishop of Morphou, the building now houses a museum that opened in 1979 after restoration. The ground floor showcases a collection of stuffed animals native to Cyprus, while the upper floors exhibit a wide range of archaeological finds from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, including displays from the Tumba Tou Skuru settlement. The courtyard serves as an open-air museum, featuring pieces from the Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods. The museum's most notable artefacts are the 'Golden Leaves of Soli', discovered in 2005, which include a breathtaking tiara of delicately intertwined gold leaves. Another significant piece is the 2nd-century AD statue of the Anatolian Goddess Artemis of Ephesus, found at the Salamis ruins in 1980. Just around the corner from the popular St Mamas Church and Icon Museum, the Morphou Archaeology and Nature Museum is a rewarding visit for those interested in the rich history and natural beauty of Northern Cyprus.

The beguinages of Flanders and the Netherlands are always oases of calm and stillness, where you might still expect to see an old beguine mumbling her prayers in a doorway. Two of Ghent’s three beguinages have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Although the Old St Elizabeth Beguinage, in Begijnhofdries in Ghent, is no longer enclosed by a wall, making it simply part of the city, it still has a unique atmosphere. Today the Old St Elizabeth Beguinage is known as ‘holy corner’, a place of religious tolerance, because it has no less than three different churches: one is Roman Catholic, one is Orthodox and the other is Protestant. From bleachfield to orchard This open beguinage grew into something of a ‘beguine city’ in the 13th century, with a church, the ‘Grootjuffer’s House’, an infirmary, a chapel, more than a hundred houses for beguines, a bleachfield (a field where linen was laid out to bleach) and an orchard. After the French Revolution, with increasing industrialisation, the inhabitants moved to their new beguinage in Sint-Amandsberg in 1873.
