Adjacent to a famous beach with basic amenities, this aptly named diving spot offers a one-of-a-kind glimpse into Dominica's colourful marine life. Underwater exploration is made unique by the incessant bubbling of water thanks to the volcanic hot springs, complemented by a coral reef of golden (well, champagne) colour. Snorkel highlights include octopuses, water lilies, eels, sea horses — and a centuries-old shipwreck.

Standing at the crossing between the old and the modern city, this stunning castle used to be not only a city gate, but also a prison. Built by Guillame Gitard in the 14th century, today it isn't only an architectural monument, but often houses various temporary exhibitions.

As Port Zante is located right in Basseterre's city centre, getting there by ferry or taxi is relatively easy. There are also mini vans called "route taxis" If you are going to Port Zante in a route taxi, look for one that has "Basseterre" written on the front sign. Once you board the minibus, you can tell the driver that you want to go to Port Zante. The minibus will drop you off at the bus terminal in downtown Basseterre, and from there it's just a 10-minute walk to Port Zante. You can ask locals for directions or follow the signs to the cruise ship terminal. There are not ATM machines in the port premises, but a short walk into Basseterre will take you to the local banks which all have machines. Most ATMs give local currency, although there are a few ones giving US dollars for a service fee.
