Beakerhead is an annual festival that celebrates the ways in which engineering and science can create art. Recurring displays include exhibitions featuring robots, street experiments and music on Stephen Avenue Walk, workshops and panels for educational purposes and nightly events with 3D projections and dance performances.

Another must-see attraction is the Chen Ancestral Shrine, which has a history of more than 100 years. The hall was once an ancestral shrine, initially built in 1888 and completed in 1894. Later, it turned to Chen Clan’s Industry College, and today it is home to the Guangdong Folk Arts Museum that exhibits a variety of folk arts and crafts.

The Whitsunday Coast is an ideal jumping off point for the Great Barrier Reef which is located 50 km from Airlie. Cruises leave Airlie Beach on a regular basis. Cruise Whitsundays and Fantasea Cruises both offer a chance to see the reef at its best. Snorkelling, semi-submersible and glass bottom boat rides, helicopter scenic flights and diving opportunities are all available with both companies.

The oldest surviving building of the Namibian capital was originally built to house the German colonial troops in the late 19th century, later going on to become a museum for Namibia's struggle for independence, as well as a historic landmark in itself. The controversial Reiterdenkmal, an alleged symbol of German dominance in the region, has been relocated from its original place opposite the Christuskirche into the yard of Alte Feste for storage. The interior space is closed for public visits as of mid-2019; a few wartime exhibits are showcased out front.
