Duthir Park is one of the best loved parks in Aberdeen, housing one of the largest covered gardens in Europe. Exotic plants and flowers from both tropical and arid climates can be admired at the Winter Garden, including Britain's largest collection of cacti. Additionally, just outside the covered gardens there is a lovely Japanese garden that commemorates the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Shiojiri Garden is a peaceful spot that highlights Mishawaka’s connection to its sister city, Shiojiri, Japan. Designed by Shoji Kanaoka—the same landscape architect behind parts of Epcot at Disney World—it’s a great place for a quiet walk. You’ll find traditional Japanese elements like bridges, lanterns, and a tea house, making it a unique stop along the Riverwalk.

Craigievar Castle looks like it was taken straight out of a fairy tale. Completed in 1626, it stands as a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture, and both interior and exterior are jaw-dropping in their beauty, attention to detail and lavishness.

Once a year, generally in the first week of September, Bird & Nature week participants will be invited in small groups to help catch Abbott’s Boobies high in the rainforest canopy, assist to colour-band Brown Boobies and monitor their colonies on the remote and secluded rocky coasts. Participants will work with our internationally renowned guides to study the nesting biology and foraging ecology of Christmas Island Frigatebirds and Red-tailed Tropicbirds. Depending on interest and demand, there will also be opportunities to assist in the colour-banding of Christmas Island Goshawks, a Christmas Island Hawk-Owl survey, seabird identification workshops, territory mapping of Island Thrushes and closer looks at the island’s other wildlife. Nightly pre-dinner seminars will showcase the results of all the seabird research, the status of the endemic landbirds, the rarities of Christmas Island, and the marine and terrestrial ecology of the island.
