After 169 years of construction, the cathedral of Antwerp finally dominated Antwerp’s skyline in 1521 with a height of 123 metres. It was and still is the biggest Gothic building of the Benelux. Located in piazza Cavour, the famous fountain La Fontana Della Pigna was built in 1543 by Giovanni da Carrara, although in part it dates back to the Roman period. The fountain is of great significance as it served as the sole source of drinking water in the city until the public aqueduct was established in 1912. Additionally, there is an inscription on the fountain referring to Leonardo da Vinci's delight upon seeing this fountain.
