This spectacular urban Buddhist temple (the head temple of the Jogye Order) is a highlight on any Busan itinerary. A pleasant uphill hike through quiet nature will take you to temple grounds, with beautiful ornate pavilions, Buddhist statues and worshippers, which include both temporary visitors and monks who reside here permanently. Temple grounds tend to get busy during holidays and weekends. You can either make a few hours' trip or – for full cultural immersion – book an overnight stay that includes an introduction to monastic life, complete with joining a formal dinner and pre-dawn chanting. Stays must booked in advance via the website, and there are several different programmes available. If you opt for the full experience, do mind that the (silent!) wake-up hour is at 5am.

Though it was once a busy shipyard where European immigrants settled after coming in search of work, this colourful and vibrant neighbourhood has developed into a fashionable centre for trendy galleries and boutiques. Tourists flock here to snap a shot of the colourful Caminito, where painted metal shacks reflect the area's past, and to pay a visit to one of football's most legendary stadiums.

Worcester Cathedral is claimed to be one of England’s loveliest cathedrals with its medieval cloisters, the ancient crypt and chapter house and the stunning Victorian stained glasses. In addition, there are the royal tombs of King John and Prince Arthur to explore. For an amazing view, go up the bell tower and roof!

Head to Seminyak if you're after an upmarket beach scene. The area’s full of high-end villas, boutique hotels, and sleek restaurants. The beaches—Seminyak and Petitenget—are long, west-facing, and decent for surfing. Sunset is the main event here. Bars and beach clubs fill up fast, especially along the sand.
