Not to be mistaken with the larger lake of the same name on the River Shannon, Lough Derg in Co. Donegal is a renowned place of pilgrimage. A traditional three-day pilgrimage takes place each August, but the Lough is open to visitors (including anglers!) year-round. The Lough is composed of over 30 islands and inlets, the most famous of which is Station Island - it is said that when St. Patrick traversed Ireland converting kings to Christianity, Jesus appeared to him here and revealed the entrance to Purgatory! The Lough's name comes from the Irish word "dearg" (red) as a local legend holds that a local mortal once called the magic powers of the lake to transform a worm into a vicious cow. Once defeated, the red blood of the cow changed the colour of the rocks (which are in fact sandstone) to red.

Walking through the Historic Centre of Partenkirchen, each step leads you further into long ago times. Follow the tracks of the fresco painter Heinrich Bickel who decorated the „Fraundorfer“ Inn at Ludwigstraße with a gorgeous typical country wedding. Nearby, you will also find the local Werdenfels Museum. Miraculously, the former merchant’s building was not impaired by the Big Blaze of 1865. Nowadays, history and ancient customs of the Werdenfels Region are exhibited in the five-storyed house.

The beautiful Bicentennial Park runs along Darwin's central business district between the Esplanade and the waterfront, providing a much appreciated green space in the heart of the city. It is home to several memorials commemorating those deceased in war, it plays host to several festivals each year, and it is a popular location for weddings and events.

The building alone is well worth a visit. In the 16th century, the Lanfranchi family built this palace leaning against a group of medieval structures showing paintings dating to that era. In 2007 Palazzo Lanfranchi became the Graphic Museum, where you can see collections of prints and drawings from the University of Pisa taking part in educational and art events.
