Open from early March through early May., the fields of Carlsbad, California transform into a breathtaking spectacle of colors with blooming flowers. If you happen to be in the city for the season, make sure to go for a stroll across the fields or join a tractor ride through the area. A magnificent place for getting your photo taken or simply taking in the seemingly endless landscape of colors.

Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island is probably the most well-known freshwater lake in Australia. Located 100 metres above the sea level, it is classified as a 'perched lake', which means that all of the crystal-clear water comes from the rain. High levels of acidity in the lake and the fact that all nutrients have been washed out of the shimmering white silica sand make the water unsuitable for nearly all forms of plant and fish life. It is likely the purest water you'll ever dip your toes in. The Aboriginal name for the lake is Boorangoora, which means 'waters of wisdom'. It was and still is known as a place for decision-making.

This zoo was made world famous by The Crocodile Hunter himself — Steve Irwin. Although best known for its crocodiles and crocodile feedings, the zoo also features wildlife from all around Australia and the world over, including koalas, tigers, and even the possibility of hand-feeding a kangaroo.

A little further outside of the city of Carlsbad, you can find the ruins of an old copper mine that was active during World War I, set next to a beautiful creek with waterfalls. The mines can be reached via a short hike from the main road in San Elijo and the paths are signposted.
