This beautiful example of Spanish colonial architecture contains a small museum dedicated to the Spanish Inquisition's brutal persecution of heretics once carried out in these very chambers. Visitors can still see some of the torture devices used to extract confessions of heresy and witchcraft, along with some of the questions used in "witch" interrogations, which are still displayed on the museum wall. Needless to say, no prisoner could hope to be acquitted of their purported crimes against the Catholic Church, and most met their tragic end at the very guillotine still on display in the courtyard.

The National Trust of Australia Heritage Centre consists of three quaint Queensland houses dating from the last 150 years. All are furnished in the fashion of the period when they were built. The collection of preserved materials from the past, as well as the annual Heritage festival, present an interesting part of local history and culture.

Visit the traditional Latin Mass chapelle, similar to its bigger sister in Paris. This church is small, quiet and rarely full of tourists and is conveniently located in the centre of La Rochelle. A place where to get some peace of mind while admiring the interior, especially the stained glass windows.

Plage de Chatelaillon is a popular beach resort located south of the La Rochelle's city centre. Enjoy your day here walking along the seaside on this long stretch of golden sand. In the evening you can have a nice dinner in one of the cosy restaurants.
