Take a moment to sit on the chair opposite the bronze statue of Astrid Lindgren in the main square of Vimmerby. Crafted by the artist Marie-Louise Ekman and unveiled in 2007, the statue captures Astrid in her workroom, seated at her typewriter. A nearly uninterrupted 14-kilometre stretch of sand extends from Geraki to Laganas, forming one of the last major nesting sites for the endangered loggerhead turtle.
