St. Nicholas Abbey is one of the island’s oldest surviving plantation buildings. You can visit the rum distillery, learn about its history at the museum (situated in a Jacobean mansion) and grab a bite at the Terrace Café. As of late 2018, you can even enjoy a ride on the heritage railway, which goes through lush woods and around a lake nearby. St. Nicholas is located in St. Peter in the northern part of Barbados, only a 40-minute drive from Bridgetown.

The museum contains a marvellous collection of hand-picked Islamic artefacts, from ancient manuscripts and carvings to objects of cultural value produced during the past three centuries. These include jewellery, ceramics, fabrics, clothing and musical instruments.

Nestled near the Desert Botanical Garden, the Phoenix Zoo is home to a diverse range of animals from all over the world, with a special focus on the wildlife of the Sonoran Desert. The zoo features expansive exhibits where you can observe native creatures like coyotes, mountain lions, and desert tortoises up close. For a more immersive experience, the zoo offers interactive opportunities, including camel rides, stingray touch tanks, and a petting zoo where kids can brush and feed goats. In addition to its animal encounters, the Phoenix Zoo hosts daily educational programs and seasonal events such as ZooLights, where the park transforms into a winter wonderland of sparkling lights.

Treasury of wines from Maribor and its surroundings The Old Vine House Winery is a true treasure trove of Maribor wine-growing districts, as it represents around 55 local winemakers who contribute to the collection of more than 200 different wine labels, including the Oceanus sparkling wine that matures for several months at the bottom of the Bay of Piran, earth-ripened orange Dolium wine and the like.
