Shelby Farms Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country, covering 4,500 acres (about 1,820 hectares) of green space, lakes, and trails. Once a prison farm, it’s now a massive outdoor playground with everything from hiking and biking trails to paddleboarding and zip-lining. You might even spot a small herd of buffalo roaming the grounds. Designed with input from the team behind NYC’s High Line, it’s a go-to spot for outdoor lovers looking to escape the city for a bit.

In 1855, the Archduke Massimiliano of Hapsburgs built this palace and lived here with his wife Carlotta del Belgio, until 1864. Though beautiful, this castle holds a tormented story behind it: Massimiliano was killed in Mexico in 1867, and Charlotte died insane in a Belgian castle, sixty years later. The Duke of Aosta, who lived there some sixty years later, died in Africa during World War II.

The “Grand House” of El Castell de Guadalest or “Casa Orduña” was built after the great earthquake of 1644, which devastated the region and demolished the buttress of the castle. It was built by the Orduñas, a family of Basque lineage. They came to the kingdom of Valencia with the Infante Fortuna de Navarra; they later went into the service of the Cardonas, admirals of Aragón. D. Sancho de Cardona received the title of Marques of Guadalest in 1543. As the family enjoyed the complete confidence of the marqueses, they were sent to Guadalest and served as guardians of the fortress and governors of the estate for almost three hundred years.

Although relatively new, the Cathedral of Tbilisi is absolutely spectacular. Colloquially known as Sameba, Georgian for 'Trinity,' the construction is a traditional Georgian cross-dome construction with strong Byzantine undertones. This enormous cathedral towers over the city from its perch on the Ilya Hill and offers a spectacular view. Come here just before sunset for optimal lighting.
