Västervik's hospital, opened in 1912, was established due to the acute need for psychiatric care facilities. The hospital functioned as a self-contained community, housing approximately 1,400 patients and 900 staff at its peak. It was a closed world, now revealed at the Psychiatric Museum. The museum is housed in a former ward restored to its original condition. Visitors can take a guided tour to learn about the care practices during the hospital's operational days. The museum also features photographs from that era. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are several smaller events organized each year.

Escape the crowds and discover another side of Mykonos by heading to the tranquil little village of Ano Mera, 8 km away from the capital. Its main attraction is the 16th-century Panagia Tourliani Monastery, which houses holy icons and paintings as well as a beautiful marble fountain and a bell tower. The site of an infamous prison reborn as the superb Constitutional Court, art gallery and museum. The history of Constitution Hill dates back to 1892; a prison turned military defence post during the South African War. These buildings were known as "the Fort", and have through the years incarcerated the likes of Mahatma Gandhi. In 1964 the Fort was declared a National Monument, and in the late 90's it was chosen the new Constitutional Court.
