Probably the most photographed spot in Bordeaux—and for good reason. The 18th-century buildings around Place de la Bourse are part of the city’s UNESCO-listed historic centre, and they reflect perfectly in the shallow pool of the Miroir d’eau just across the road. It looks great early in the morning, but the reflections are just as striking in the evening when everything’s lit up. Kids run through the mist when it sprays every 15 minutes in summer, and photographers camp out for that symmetrical shot.

Princes Street Gardens is a dramatic swathe of greenery in Edinburgh’s very centre, directly beneath Castle Rock. These twin parks — East and West — were created in the 1820s after the draining of the polluted Nor Loch, a medieval defensive lake. They are separated by The Mound, an artificial hill formed from excavation debris during the New Town’s construction. The West Garden is larger and home to the Ross Bandstand, a stage for summer concerts and Hogmanay celebrations. Near The Mound entrance, the intricate Floral Clock blooms with a new design each year since 1903. More than just a scenic shortcut, the gardens are a testament to city-making: a Victorian solution to urban blight that became one of Edinburgh’s most beloved civic spaces, perfect for a stroll, a picnic, or simply admiring the iconic views.

In the southwest corner of The Mellah and next to the Habarim Synagogue, a sea of white tombs stretch down the hill, and it is easy to spot which are the graves of rabbis. As this is one of the oldest cemeteries in Morocco, you will find here Rabbi Vidal Hasserfaty, who died in 1600 already.

Bröderna Nilssons Livs in central Kungsbacka is a genuine country grocery store where you can buy delicacies, cheese, tea and local produce over the counter, have your bill totted up by hand and enjoy a pleasant chat with the shopkeeper. The Nilsson family started the shop in 1940.
