The small scenic harbour of Paralimni is overlooked by the chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which adds some island colour to the place. Visitors can rest and have a coffee while enjoying fine views of the sea and the harbour and watching the boats come and go. At sunset the whole scenery is even more breathtaking.

The Super DC-3 aircraft crashed into Sólheimasandur back in 1973, thankfully leaving its seven crew members unharmed. Since then the empty husk of a plane has been left exposed to the elements, rusting away in constant humidity and cracking from constant freezes and thaws. The wreckage is a particularly beloved spot by local and visiting photographers thanks to its sparse and wild surrounding black sand landscape and its incredible visual contrast to the aircraft’s gnarled metal carcass. To visit the plane wreck, you can join organised hiking, horse riding or ATV riding tours, take a bus or get there by yourself. Remember, that driving over the sands is considered to be driving off-road and carries heavy fines. Lastly, the wreck is located pretty close to the village of Vik made famous after a popular Netflix series Katla.

Island Roy is a 90-acre little-known island with few inhabitants, mostly farmers. Its Irish name, Oileán Ruaidh, means "red island" and refers to the vibrant red hue of the vegetation in winter - the island has even been symbolically "twinned" with the Red Planet, Mars! A calm place of retreat, explore the sand dunes and hills at your leisure. The island is accessible from the mainland by road - but only during low tide.

Dominating the city, this cathedral symbolises the rich religious past of the city and gives an indirect insight of the muted power struggle between Calvinism and Catholism. The Visitation Basilica protects the bodies of Saint Joan of Chantal and Saint Francis of Sales, as well as a 38-ton chime, named Marie-Francoise.
