This archaeological site (the local name Jardin des Vestiges) was discovered as constructions of a shopping centre commenced here in 1967. The garden contains an interesting mix of Greek and Roman remains. The majority of its finds are ruins of the old port.

Built in 1907 by Nesim Levi, a local Jewish businessman, the Historical Elevator Building was originally designed to facilitate the transportation of goods and people between the residential areas of Karataş and the trade centre below. Beyond its functional purpose, the Historical Elevator Building now stands as a historical and architectural landmark, offering a glimpse into İzmir's past and providing panoramic views of the city and the Aegean Sea from its upper terrace.

Formerly the main street of Hoi An's French Quarter, Phan Bội Châu is currently going through a renaissance: art galleries, exhibition spaces and sophisticated craft boutiques have opened here, bringing the street to the forefront of the town's cultural life. If you only have time for one gallery visit, make it the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum. Brainchild of the acclaimed travel photographer Réhahn, the space contains an exhibition of his finest work – photographs taken across Vietnam that seemingly lay bare the souls of their subjects – as well as an impressive collection of authentic garments worn by various ethnic groups across the country. There is a printed guide to the area's venues that can be picked up free of charge at many locations across town.

In the heart of Konak Square stands İzmir's most iconic landmark, the Clock Tower. Erected in 1901 to mark the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II's reign, the tower has a height of 25 metres and features four floors and an octagonal plan, characterised by a white marble platform and cut stone structures. No visit would be complete without a photograph next to the majestic monument.
