Christmas Island is one of the world's truly spectacular tropical seabird rookeries. It's not just the number and variety of seabirds or their magnificent splendour that make the island so remarkable, but also their sheer visibility. Around 80,000 seabirds nest here annually, with 23 breeding or resident species. Birds can be seen and heard everywhere on the island, at just about any time of the day. With just a little effort, birdwatchers can easily tick off a full list of residents in a busy week or a more relaxed fortnight. However, the elusive Christmas Island hawk owl keeps many coming back. More than 100 vagrant and migratory bird species have been recorded here, including eight breeding seabird species and one subspecies. The most numerous is the wide-ranging red-footed booby, which nests in colonies in trees in many parts of the coastal shore terraces. You may see the endangered Christmas Island frigatebird soaring above Settlement — it's the world's rarest frigatebird and nests only on the island. The golden form of the white-tailed tropic bird is an endemic subspecies unique to Christmas Island. Known locally as the golden bosun bird, this stunning bird is graceful in flight and has been adopted as the island's fauna emblem.

During the 9th century this was the largest church in Spain and although now dwarfed by later and greater buildings, it remains of great significance in the history of Spanish religious architecture. The church is well worth a visit, especially for its magnificent array of gorgeously coloured murals.

Located in the Old Town, this was the official Key West residence of Nobel Prize winning author Ernest Hemingway, as in 1968 it enjoyed the distinction of becoming a U.S. National Historic Landmark. Tour the spectacular gardens, with an impressive variety of flowers and trees, and observe the 20,000-dollar swimming pool — an unusual opulence at that time. You'll also be able to visit the bookstore lined with the author’s famous books and a plethora of other souvenirs.

Rising 2,704 feet above the Phoenix Valley, Camelback Mountain is an iconic destination for travelers seeking adventure and breathtaking views. The mountain offers two popular hiking trails, each challenging in its own way. The Echo Canyon Trail is shorter but steeper, while the Cholla Trail is longer and slightly less intense, though both demand a good level of fitness and preparation. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding desert landscape and city skyline. At the summit, you’ll experience the exhilarating feeling of accomplishment under the bright blue Arizona skies. Guided hikes are also available for those who prefer a more structured experience or need local expertise. Remember to bring plenty of water and wear proper hiking gear, as the trails are rigorous and the desert heat can be intense, especially in summer.
