El Rey beach is the most secluded and least known on our list. Playa Rey is well known for being a perfect spot for surfers — the breaks are super clean and the coast is seemingly infinite. Best reached by car via road 235, and then the 34 direction Dominical, and then a short stretch down a dirt road. You'll see plenty of animals in this less-travelled part of the Manuel Antonio National Park. When you're close to the Naranjo River, watch out for crocodiles!

This is the former capital of the Khmer Empire, which ruled this region between the 9th and 12th centuries. Angkor Archaeological Park evokes the rich historical, architectural and cultural past of the Khmers. The majestic Angkor complex offers temples galore, which is a marvel to explore. Each temple is unique, from the grandeur of Angkor Wat to the beauty of Banteay Srei, this dynastic ’village’ is spellbinding. You need a minimum of two days to explore. As the temples are spread out, transportation is required. Bicycles, motorbikes, tuk-tuks and air-conditioned cars are at your disposal. Guides can be sought through most hotels and guesthouses.

After a visit to Donegal Castle, make sure to recharge at this cosy tearoom. The daily soup and quiche specials can be followed with a delicious chocolate or fruit-topped dessert.

Set in a well-maintained garden, this mini golf course with 14 holes is fun for the whole family. Miniature temples work as hurdles and make the golf round exciting and unpredictable and the view of open greenery rice fields surrounded by friendly local villagers is also wonderful.
