A walk to the vibrant Punda quarter is a great way to begin your journey in Curaçao. Crossing the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge already guarantees stunning views, and there is more to take in once you reach the waterfront, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Allegedly, he parade of colours is due to a former governor, who was convinced that the glaring white buildings were triggering his headaches, so he had them repainted. An iconic example is the yellow Baroque building of Penha, which today houses duty-free stores.

Standing on the right bank of the Grand Canal, Ca' Rezzonico is one of the most magnificent buildings in the whole city, as well as a remarkable example of 18th-century Venetian baroque and rococo architecture. It was completed in 1756 and today serves as a public museum with an interesting display of 18th-century Venetian artefacts, including furniture, paintings, and sculptures.

The oldest surviving building of the Namibian capital was originally built to house the German colonial troops in the late 19th century, later going on to become a museum for Namibia's struggle for independence, as well as a historic landmark in itself. The controversial Reiterdenkmal, an alleged symbol of German dominance in the region, has been relocated from its original place opposite the Christuskirche into the yard of Alte Feste for storage. The interior space is closed for public visits as of mid-2019; a few wartime exhibits are showcased out front.
