For some insight into Cape Verde's more recent turbulent history, visit Colonia Penal de Tarrafal, a prison and concentration camp nicknamed 'Campo da Morte Lenta' (Camp of the Slow Death). It was used to keep political opponents of António de Oliveira Salazar, the right-wing dictator who governed Portugal in the mid-20th century. It is a harrowing, but important visit.

Witness the Neuschwanstein fairytale castle that inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle, as well as the Linderhof Palace on a magical day trip from Munich. Built by Germany's King Ludwig II on a rugged hill against a backdrop of Bavaria's lush and picturesque mountain scenery, the Schloss Neuschwanstein is a stunning piece of architecture, which one could literally spend hours staring at. The Linderhof Palace, the smallest of the three palaces associated with King Ludwig II, served as his primary residence for much of his life.

The Städtische Galerie in Lenbachhaus has a unique collection about the 'Blue Rider' artist group. In addition to artworks from the 19th century, the museum also exhibits art from the post-1945 period.

The Wall Museum is located in the basement of the "Casa del Paso" building, on the Salesas Campus of the Miguel Hernández University. It also houses an interesting and well organised archaeological site, set up after various stages of excavation between 1998 and 2000. Significant architectural heritage sites are well conserved: The town wall, four watchtowers dating back to the Almohad era (Designated Cultural sites since 14/12/1998), Arab baths, Islamic and early medieval streets and homes, a Gothic palace and architectural remains of the Casa del Paso (17th Century). Furthermore, remains dating back from the second half of the 12th Century to the 20th Century have been recovered. During the visit, around the perimeter path and glazed walkways, there is also a variety of complementary resources to help interpret the findings, such as display panels, scale models, signposts, display cases and a video.
