About an hour south of Anchorage, the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a haven for animals that wouldn’t make it in the wild—moose, bison, bears, musk oxen, and more. Most of the animals are rescues, or were orphaned or injured, and the center provides them with the care they need to thrive. Walk or drive the loop to observe these majestic creatures in their expansive, natural habitat, with the Chugach Mountains as your backdrop.

The Alaska Native Heritage Center provides visitors with deep insight into the cultures that have shaped Alaska for thousands of years—and are still very much alive today. There are indoor exhibits, but the outdoor part is just as interesting, with traditional structures set around a lake and demonstrations of things like dancing, carving, and games.

Praised by The Boston Globe as "Shakespeare as Willie himself intended," Waterville’s Shakespeare in the Valley features professional actors performing classic plays on an outdoor stage. The performances stay true to traditional Shakespearean style, offering interactive dialogue and nonstop entertainment.

The Carnival is a lively party at which everyone is welcome. Attendees typically don disguises and masks, and the streets fill with groups of chirigotas, comparsas, or a special type of murga that is indigenous to Bornos. Two weeks before the party, the Peña Carnavalesca de Bornos organizes the "Morcillá Popular". Beer and blood sausage can be tasted for free while the groups participating in the party present their songs. A provincial contest is held every year in the auditorium of the Corpus Christi Convent. Groups from the whole area participate. In any act of the contest you can enjoy an atmosphere of genius and magic. Carnival takes place on the second weekend in the so-called Domingo de Piñata. A parade and costume contest mark the day.
