Soak up some history at "The Birthplace of California," sit down for an authentic Mexican meal at an old California-style restaurant, and go back in time and commemorate San Diego's heritage at one of the many historical sites. Founded in 1769, Old Town San Diego was California’s first permanent European settlement on the West Coast. Today, it’s a vibrant area filled with colorful shops, live mariachi performances, and attractions that celebrate California's storied past.

With more than 100,000 exotic plant species from all over the world, black and white swans from Australia, and multiple ponds and lakes, Monte Palace Tropical Garden is one of the most impressive sights in Madeira. Make sure to stop by the Monte Palace Museum, which houses exhibitions featuring artefacts from a diverse range of international cultures as well as a mineral museum.

J.R. O'Neal Botanical Gardens is a small, serene oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Road Town, located about 2 km from the cruise terminal. Despite the damage caused by Hurricane Irma, the gardens are still a delightful and well-maintained attraction filled with lush tropical vegetation. The collection of tropical plants represents different habitats of the BVI, such as the rainforest and coastal environments, in addition to exotic species and an extensive collection of palms. Visitors can enjoy a greenhouse for orchids, a lily pond, a gazebo of orchids, and a scenic pergola. The nursery at the gardens plays a crucial role in preserving endangered species of flora found within the BVI.

The Zorrilla Museum is located in what was once the summer home of the poet Juan Zorrilla de San Martin, in the Montevideo neighbourhood of Punta Carretas. It houses documents, belongings and furniture of the poet and has a room for temporary exhibitions in which art exhibitions, concerts, readings and other cultural activities take place.
