In 1374, the first Emperor of the Ming Dynasty decided to build a tower by the Yangtze River and named it Yuejiang (literally meaning "overlooking the river"). He called for all the authors in the country to write articles in order to praise the magnificent tower, even though it was not yet built. One of the articles became a classic, but the construction of the tower was never started until 2000. The reputation of the tower preceded its actual existence by 650 years.

The suggestive walk that twists and turns through Portofino´s most southern tip leads to a scenic view of the Ligurian Sea, so no wonder that Portofino´s Lighthouse is a town landmark. The immaculate white colour of the building creates a contrast with the surrounding natural landscape, shaping a vivid scene.

The Chinese who settled in Hoi An identified themselves according to their province of origin. Each community built its own assembly hall, known as 'hoi quan' in Vietnamese, for social gatherings, meetings and celebrations. The Fujian Assembly Hall is, perhaps, the best-known one; the Cantonese Assembly Hall stands out for its beauty and contains a tranquil inner courtyard, while the 19th-century Hainan Assembly Hall functions, in part, as a memorial to the 108 merchants from Hainan who met a tragic fate being mistaken for pirates – the entire story is narrated via wall posters.
