Aker Brygge is a lively and very popular area situated right by the fjord. It has witnessed enormous development since the days when it used to be a shipyard up until the 80s. Now, visitors and locals come here for shopping, al fresco dining at one of the countless restaurants and bistros, or just to take a stroll along the waterfront. Tjuvholmen is an area located on a peninsula adjacent to Aker Brygge, between Pipervika and Filipstad. It has also undergone remarkable transformations throughout its history. Once a bustling dock, shipyard, and warehouse district, Tjuvholmen has evolved into a modern hub characterised by innovative architecture and bustling with stylish apartments and trendy restaurants. Tjuvholme also hosts many art galleries, a sculpture park, and a city beach. Here you'll also find the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, housed in a spectacular wooden building designed by Renzo Piano.

The Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park, established in 1983, boasts one of the finest displays of crocodiles in Australia. You can take a guided feeding tour at 3pm and see hatchlings, alligators, Nile and freshwater crocodiles, as well as ferocious saltwater crocs.

Palazzo Reale was the residential estate of the Savoy family until 1861. Today, it hosts various galleries and museums. In the main building of the palace you can admire magnificent objects from the Baroque and Rococo periods, besides the stunning architectural structure of the estate itself. Palazzo Reale is located on Piazza Castello, one of the two main squares of the city.

Tōfuku-ji Temple is one of the oldest and most famous Zen temples in Kyōto for its wonderful and extensive gardens. The original buildings were burnt down but rebuilt faithfully to the original in the 15th century. In 1881, a blazing fire destroyed the Buddha hall, which was never again rebuilt. The complex' main gate is the oldest sanmon in Japan and a National Treasure. Today, the temple welcomes thousands of visitors throughout the year; to make their experience even more unforgettable, it offers regular Zen meditation sessions for beginners (only in Japanese). Note that the temple is overcrowded during autumn as a favourite haunt to witness kōyō (the falling of colourful leaves).
