Located at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, this impressive brick castle was built in the 14th century at the beginning of the Teutonic attacks. In 1887, Henning Hammarlund founded 'Halda Fickursfabrik', a pocket watch factory in the town of Svängsta, just outside of Karlshamn. The Swedish-made watches were sought after worldwide and were manufactured in the same building until the 1940s.
